Wordle Helper and Solver: How to Use One Without Spoiling the Game
Wordly team · Roghan Games · November 1, 2026
A Wordle helper, also called a solver, is a tool that lists the words that still fit your clues. You type the green, yellow and gray letters you have found, and it filters a word list down to the possible answers. Used well, it is a study tool and a way to get unstuck. Used on every guess, it takes the fun out of the game. This guide explains how one works and how to use it fairly.
Open the free word helperHow a Wordle solver works
A solver does not guess. It applies three simple rules to a list of words, and keeps only the words that follow all of them:
- Green letters: the word must have that letter in exactly that slot.
- Yellow letters: the word must contain the letter, but not in the slot where it turned yellow.
- Gray letters: the word must not contain the letter (unless it appears elsewhere as a green or yellow, which means it is a repeated letter).
A worked example with real numbers
Our 5-letter list has 3,066 possible answers. Suppose the secret word is SHARE and you start with CRANE:
After that single guess, 7 words in the list still fit, for example SHARE, FLARE, GLARE, SPARE, AWARE, STARE. Now you guess SLATE:
With both clues, only 2 words fit: SHARE, SPARE. That is how quickly the right filters shrink the list, and it shows why choosing informative guesses matters.
How to use the helper, step by step
- Pick the word length (4, 5, 6 or 7 letters).
- Type your green letters in the boxes for their slots.
- Type the yellow letters in the yellow field. They are in the word, just not where you tried them.
- Type the gray letters in the gray field.
- Read the list. Words with a green border are common words and more likely to be the answer.
Using a helper fairly
- Try first. Make your own first three guesses before asking for help. Most puzzles can be solved without one.
- Use it as a tie-breaker. When two or three words fit, a solver can show you the others you missed.
- Use it to learn. After a loss, enter the clues and see which words you overlooked. That trains you faster than a hint.
- Keep your streak honest. If you care about your daily streak, avoid it on the daily puzzle and use it in unlimited mode instead.

Wordle helper: frequently asked questions
- Is using a Wordle helper cheating?
- That is up to you. A helper is a study and tie-breaking tool. For a puzzle you want to win on your own, try first and use it only to check your ideas.
- Does the helper know today's answer?
- No. It only filters a word list using the clues you enter. It does not look up the answer of any daily challenge.
- Why does my helper show words that the game does not accept?
- Every game has its own word list. A word can be valid in one list and missing from another, so use the helper as a guide, not a guarantee.
- Does it work for 4, 6 and 7 letter games?
- Yes. Wordly's helper supports 4, 5, 6 and 7 letters.
